Miami won their 3rd-straight game by double digits with a 35-8 pounding of Buffalo last week. Dallas needed OT to win their 3rd-straight game, 27-24 over Washington last Sunday.
The Dolphins have started to achieve some balance on offense and they’ll need it in this matchup. They ran the ball 35 times last week and while they failed to reach 100 yards, they kept the defense honest. QB Matt Moore threw three TD passes and faces a secondary this week that has had their problems at times this season. After having trouble scoring points during their long losing streak, Miami has averaged 29 points during their current winning streak. TE Anthony Fasano leads the team with four TD receptions and is a real threat in the red zone. WR Brandon Marshall has played well in the slot and is a matchup problem for smaller corners. LT Jake Long will have his hands full with OLB DeMarcus Ware and his 14 sacks.
The Cowboys are averaging 31 points-per-game during their winning streak as QB Tony Romo is producing through the air while rookie RB DeMarco Murray is leading the ground attack. However, Miami’s defense is playing better than any other unit in the league over the past three weeks. They are getting sacks and will pressure Romo off the edge and are allowing fewer than four yards-per-rush. They haven’t allowed more than nine points in any of their past three games and all three levels are contributing. Romo has been mistake-free recently but would benefit from the return of WR Miles Austin (hamstring, check status). WR Dez Bryant has stepped up his play and TE Jason Witten is playing at a high level as always. The key for the Dolphins ’D’ will be how they handle Murray. If they can keep him in check, they will force Romo into long down-and-distance situations.
ATS Pick
Both of these teams are hot even though only one has playoff ambitions. Miami hasn’t quit on their lame duck HC, Tony Sparano, and are playing well on both sides of the ball. The Cowboys have everything to play for but really struggled with a depleted Washington roster last week. We like Miami’s defense and feel their no-name offense will do enough to keep the game close.
