Point Spread: 49ers -3.5
Total Line: 38
The 49ers are moving the ball via the ground as they average 137.6 yards-per-game. The Redskins run defense was solid at the beginning of the year but like the rest of the team, has tailed off in the past month. RB Frank Gore leads the way but rookie RB Kendall Hunter has also contributed. QB Alex Smith (9-2 TD/INT ratio) is playing the best ball of his career but he is only asked to not make mistakes. San Francisco lacks speed on the outside and Smith will need to complete several mid-range passes. The Redskins have 23 sacks, so Smith will have to get rid of the ball quickly.
Washington’s offense is devoid of playmakers as injuries have taken their toll. Washington also allowed 10 sacks last week to a team that had totalled only four on the year before that contest. QB John Beck lacks the skills to make a lot happen on his own and he will be looking constantly for TE Fred Davis. RBs Ryan Torain and rookie RB Roy Helu will find tough sledding against the Niners 3-4 alignment (73 yards allowed per game) and that will put Beck in several 3rd and long situations. Rookie OLB Aldon Smith and DE Justin Smith are the top pass rushers for the 49ers and look for them to get good pressure on Beck.
ATS Pick
San Francisco is 6-1 SU/6-0-1 ATS this season and are playing their best ball in years. They have made three East Coast road trips this season and won them all. They have also added some trickeration to the offense and that keeps defenses off balance. WR Ted Ginn is not a good conventional wideout but is a big-play threat with the ball in his hands and look for him to make at least one big play. This is a very low number and we see the 49ers moving to 7-1 with a victory on Sunday.
Take the 49ers -3.5
